Biography

Education

Noah Senden is a Belgian composer with a passion for contemporary classical music, film music, and music theatre. At the age of seven, he began his musical journey with harpsichord, piano, and violin lessons. By the age of twelve, he had already composed his first works. In 2016, he started his studies in composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, with Wim Henderickx, Bram Van Camp, Luc Van Hove, and Alain Craens. An Erasmus exchange in 2020 to the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in Tallinn, where he studied with Tõnu Kõrvits, introduced him to Baltic musical culture and the distinctive sound of the local choral tradition. He also received guidance from Toivo Tulev and Helena Tulve.

Composer and teacher

Noah’s career as a composer and arranger has brought him in contact with leading names in the music world, including the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Casco Phil, HERMESensemble, Jef Neve, I Solisti, Kugoni Trio, Desguin Quartet, Koi Collective, La Passione, and many others. His works have been performed at venues such as the Queen Elisabeth Hall, DeSingel, AMUZ, Handelsbeurs, De Bijloke, Concertgebouw Bruges, and abroad at the EMTA Concert and Theatre Hall in Tallinn. His most recent large-scale commission, De Lange Wapper, premiered at the Antwerp Spring Festival 2024. In collaboration with Clara Cleymans, Stijn Saveniers, and Casco Phil, he created the music for a captivating music theatre production for children, bringing to life the Antwerp legend of Lange Wapper. Alongside his compositional work, Noah is active as a teacher of composition and music theory at the music academies of Brasschaat, Merksem, and Kapellen.

Vision and style

Noah’s music is shaped by a strong sense of narrative and extramusical influences such as nature, time, and literature. His works often include elements of sonic experimentation and subtle innovations within traditional structures. He seeks to challenge audiences with a musical language that is both recognizable and original, highlighting the unexpected. In recent years, choral music has become a central part of his work. During his studies, he took several years of choral conducting with Luc Anthonis and collaborated as a conductor with the youth choir Cantilene, where he also sang for many years. During his time in Tallinn, he sang in the EMTA Choir under the direction of Tõnu Kaljuste. These experiences continue to inspire his passion for vocal music.
