Maria durch ein' Dornwald ging
Maria durch ein' Dornwald ging is a well known pilgrim's song from Eichsfeld (Niedersachsen) that has been sung as an advent song since the 20th century. The melody probably dates from the 16th century. The text tells how in a miraculous way a barren forest blossomed again when Mary and her divine child Jesus passed by. Vits provides a charming three-part setting of the old melody.
